Pasdec Automotive Technologies Opens New Plant Tuesday, 5th July 2005
At a ceremony held in Brits on the 28th June 2005, Pasdec Automotive Technologies’ new plant was officially opened by Dato’ Hj. Abdul Rahim Mohd. Ali, the deputy CEO of the Pahang State Development Corporation (Malaysia).
Known as Plant 2, the new facility houses the cutting and crimping, tubing extrusion and battery cable operations, with a fully equipped quality control laboratory and a tool room. The plant, which currently provides employment for 139 people, has been furnished with all the necessary staff facilities, such as a canteen and first aid room.
Plant 1 is now primarily an assembly facility, with a despatch and development area. Management services, administration and the training centre are also based on these premises.
In addition to the approximately forty contract workers employed over the last six months, the planed export programme made possible by the new facility will create up to an additional sixty jobs.
The new plant in Brits was fully operational on the 21st March, a mere four days after the move commenced. Through meticulous planning and the tireless efforts of all staff, the virtually seamless transition was achieved without any loss of production.
The manner in which the plant was commissioned without disrupting supply to Pasdec’s clients was a critical success factor, notwithstanding the fact that it has presented a few challenges. Located approximately two kilometres from Plant 1, the new plant has resulted in the added movement of materials, a challenge that has been met with effective controls at both plants.
The return on a significant investment in Plant 2 is already starting to materialise. In addition to relieving space pressures on the assembly plant, the operation is benefiting from better workflow and improved productivity. At the same time, quality has been optimised and effective control measures have been instituted.
With this upgraded, more efficient facility the company is now well set to provide existing clients with worldclass products and services, as well as expand its markets locally and internationally.
